Profile of Our Donors and Needs
The CENTER for Therapeutic and Educational Riding depends on the monetary and in-kind contributions of numerous stakeholders to sustain its program. Since its inception in 2002, The CENTER has depended on various direct and indirect contributions by Delaware state agencies, philanthropic organizations and private business, and most importantly, countless hours of volunteer time. Also, we would be very remiss if we forgot our “biggest” contributors in this endeavor – the horses themselves.
Our needs continue to grow as our reputation and commitment grow to advocate on behalf of our riders. To date, funding has allowed us to offer a heated parent/rider lounge within the indoor arena. The lounge is multi-purpose and is equipped to conduct classroom teaching, seminars and group meetings. Also, the lounge has allowed The CENTER to better serve our parents and riders providing a warm or cool dry space to relax in. In addition, a lift system exists to ensure riders with special needs have a safe and controlled mount during any indoor programs. Due to the special needs of the individuals we serve, The CENTER is a specialized facility capable of meeting the needs of these individuals. Their needs are met through modified equipment, modified instruction, trained staff and specially trained horses not easily found at standard riding facilities.
If successful in our expanding outside donor program, our goal will be to reduce the cost of any lesson to half this amount, and perhaps even full sponsorship, where the rider and their family incur no out-of-pocket expense. Currently we offer scholarships through the generous support of DFRC.
