Without volunteers The CENTER would not be able to run. Our volunteers are all ages from older children (14 and up) to retirees. However, children younger than 14 who have a strong horsemanship background are welcome too!
To volunteer for The CENTER you do not need to have any previous experience with horses or individuals with disabilities. All you need is to have the desire to learn!
By volunteering, you can learn about disabilities, horses and make new friends. You'll gain tremendous satisfaction from watching your riders improve physically, mentally and emotionally. Our riders look forward to seeing their new friends, our volunteers, each week so all we ask is that once you commit-you come! Other wise let us know you’ll be away so we can let the riders know you’ll be back next week!
Standard volunteer’s hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday’s from 4:00-8:00 though we understand some people may not be able to arrive quite so early or stay quite so late. For our dedicated volunteer’s of school age we will be happy to write a letter of reference for the hours you have served at The CENTER when you are applying for special clubs and/or scholarships. Please note: If you are volunteering for The CENTER simply to satisfy a requirement of community service hours for school, our requirements of the time you volunteer and the jobs we ask you to do may change. |

All volunteers participate in training with one of our NARHA Certified Instructors or with a Senior Volunteer. We ask that volunteers arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the first lesson so that they have time to review the schedule with The CENTER staff. You are not required to be CPR/First Aid certified however you are welcome to join in one of our certification classes.
The CENTER Volunteers assist in a variety of ways which include some of the following:
- Leading horses during lessons
- Sidewalking (walking alongside the horse to offer the rider support when needed)
- Grooming horses & tacking up horses
- Cooling out horses & washing down horses
- Cleaning tack
- Horse care
- Helping with fund-raisers & participating in public relations
- Anything else that needs doing!
